Cassis, ripe blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, graphite, leather, and spicy wood notes all define the flagship 2021 Sorella from this estate. Based on 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and aged in 30% new barrels, its deep ruby/plum hue (it's not completely opaque) is followed by medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, integrated tannins, and a great finish.

A Cabernet dominant blend with equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a dash of Petit Verdot from the Horse Heaven Hills classic site, Champoux Vineyard. It's delightful and freshly fruited with loads of savoury character. Bright red currant and blood orange aromatics and bright alpine herbs. Its savoury core comes to the fore on the palate as an amaro-like herbaceous character envelopes fleshy ripe strawberries, ripe red plums and a brilliant mineral finish. It's a fantastic wine.

The 2021 Sorella is youthfully coy yet remarkably pretty, mixing dried cherries with rosemary, white pepper, stone dust and hints of cinnamon. It is a model of balance, vibrant and lively within, with tart raspberry and wild berries elevated by a tinge of citrus-laced dark chocolate. The finish is dramatically long and staining yet still fresh, leaving sweet tannins and an air of autumnal spice. While geared toward the cellar, there is no harm in checking in on the Sorella today.

The 2021 Sorella from the Champoux Vineyard is composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, matured for 24 months in 30% new French oak. It has pretty aromas of blueberry jam and cassis plus nuances of peppermint patty, violet, aniseed and graphite. The full-bodied palate is elegantly styled with Goldilocks ripeness, soft, powdery tannins, juicy acidity and a long, layered finish. A total of 755 cases were made, and the Sorella will be released in February of 2026.- Erin Brooks
