(95-97 points) The 2022 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 50% whole bunches and 30% new oak. It has a much more floral bouquet than the Charmes-Chambertin, with veins of blue fruit running through the red cherries and crushed strawberries. It’s slightly more opulent thanks to the deeper soils. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, supremely well-focused and tensile. Arnaud Mortet said that this is becoming one of his favorite cuvées as the improvements made in the vineyard come to fruition in the glass. Beautiful.

The Mazoyères-Chambertin from Arnaud Mortet is the finest of the negociant line from this producer, with lovely cassis and mulberry fruit touched with notes of earth and smoke. The texture is dense, and the tannic grip is firm. Mortet works the vines himself and vinifies on native yeasts with 30% whole clusters before ageing in cask (70% new) over two winters and bottling unfiltered. This wine should open more fully in five years and will age effortlessly for another 20 after that.

(94-96 points) The Mazoyères-Chambertin receives half new wood and half pedicel treatment. A fine mid purple. This is somewhat sterner than the Charmes, with a drier finish, the fruit not reverberating in quite the same way. Some cherries do reappear at the back but the wood tannins impose a little more. Long finish on cherry and dark raspberry fruit.

(92-95 points) A restrained and ultra-fresh nose speaks of cherry, plum, red currant, earth and subtle sauvage nuances. The medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel though there is evident minerality along with a touch of youthful austerity on the punchy, powerful and decidedly serious finale.

(92-94 points) When Mortet launched his own label, this cuvée took the back seat when compared with the Charmes-Chambertin; but his work in the vineyards is paying off, as evidenced by the 2022 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a suave but structured profile, it offers up aromas of plums, cherries, spices and peony.- WK
