(98+ points) Looking at the Grand Vin, the 2022 Château Haut-Bailly checks in as 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc all raised in 50% new French oak. Its deeper ruby hue is...

The 2022 Haut-Bailly is one of the most elegant wines I have tasted here in a very long time. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, rose petal and blood orange are all finely laced together in the glass. There's a new...

Chateau Haut-Bailly, says Robert Parker Jr., “is a wine of undeniable finesse, elegance and restraint.” Marked by sophistication and supple tannins, historically—like most top-quality Bordeaux—it has been at its finest after some years of bottle age.

However, in recent years, the wines are increasingly attractive in their youth. This does not seem to affect the age-worthiness of the wine. It merely broadens the timespan for enjoyment. Indeed, steady improvements in winemaking and viticulture are raising overall quality to new levels.

The 2022 Haut Bailly is a Bordeaux Blend from the Pessac Leognan sub-region in Bordeaux, France. This red wine, produced by Haut Bailly, is sealed with a traditional cork and has garnered significant attention and acclaim from several esteemed wine reviewers.

Jeff Leve of TheWineCellarInsider.com awarded this wine a perfect score, stating, "Initially, you find a display of flowers before moving on to all of its cigar wrapper, spice, blackberry, currant, black cherry, smoke, and hints of forest leaf in the perfume. Deeply concentrated, vibrant, and refined, the palate is packed with multiple layers of perfectly ripe red fruits, a fabulous sense of purity, silky, soft, polished tannins, and ample lift in the finish." Leve suggests that this vintage might be the best ever produced at Haut Bailly, with drinking potential from 2027 to 2060.

Jeb Dunnuck also gave the wine a perfect score, calling it "one of the legendary vintages at this château." He describes an "incredible perfume of cassis, ripe black cherries, crushed stone, smoke tobacco, and wood smoke," and praises its "full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and ultra-fine, silky tannins."

James Suckling was similarly impressed, scoring the wine 98 points. He noted its "incredible complexity of aromas" and highlighted the "tight and chewy tannins that are polished and pure, with a solid and tight finish."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, through reviewer Yohan Castaing, awarded the wine 96 points, noting its "aromas of dark berries complemented by accents of iris, lilac, rose petals, graphite, and licorice," and described it as "dense and concentrated" with a "penetrating, saline finish."

Jane Anson and Vinous both gave high scores of 97 and 98 points, respectively. Anson described "stunning aromatics, with crushed roses and fragrant spice," while Neal Martin from Vinous noted the wine's "haunting beauty" and "impressive crescendo."

The Wine Independent also rated the wine highly at 98 points, praising its "ripe, expressive black fruit and earthy accents" framed by "firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness."

Overall, the 2022 Haut Bailly is a complex, deeply aromatic wine with a rich, multi-layered palate, and it has received exceptional reviews from multiple critics, suggesting a promising future for this vintage.
