Arnaud Mortet’s Gevrey-Chambertin “Ma Cuvée” 2023 is a village-level Pinot Noir that reflects both a clear-eyed approach in the cellar and the layered geography of southern Gevrey. Mortet has built this label from parcels he took on in 2016 from a retiring domaine, farming them with his sister Clémence using the same team and winery as Domaine Denis Mortet. The vineyards are worked “practicing organic,” with vines reported at 40+ years of age.

In 2023, “Ma Cuvée” is drawn from seven parcels across the appellation: a majority from lieux-dits below the Grand Crus (including Les Epointures, Champs-Chenys, En Jouise, and Clos de l’Arche), complemented by fruit from the eastern side’s gravel-and-clay soils (La Justice, La Platieres) and a small portion from Les Champerriers on rocky, thick clay on northern slopes. In the cellar, the importer notes 30% whole-cluster fermentation with ambient yeasts, followed by 16 months in barrel with about 20% new oak, and bottling unfined and unfiltered.

The wine’s strongest published assessment comes from Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy), who calls it “a lovely example” and awards an excellent 92 points. Morris reports it as “from the southern part of Gevrey,” made with “40% whole bunch vinification, and 15–20% new wood.” He describes a “mid crimson ruby” color and a profile that leads with “generous strawberry fruit up front,” then turns “darker behind on the palate,” carried by “fine acidity” and “plenty of energy all the way through to the finish.”

Overall, this reads as a straightforward, energetic Gevrey village wine: red-fruited on entry, darker-toned in the mid-palate, with freshness and drive, and oak kept in a supporting role. Alcohol and production volume are not confirmed in the available material.
