Krutz Family Cellars’ 2023 Sauvignon Blanc from Beckstoffer Melrose Vineyard is a Rutherford (Napa Valley) white from a small, family-owned producer founded in 2003 by Patrick Krutz, with brothers Bryan and Cole joining as co-owners in 2011. The fruit comes from Beckstoffer’s Melrose site, a Rutherford property acquired by Andy Beckstoffer in 1973; the vineyard totals 113 gross acres with 82 plantable acres.

This bottling is firmly in the richer, oak-shaped end of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, and it drew an excellent professional review from Jeb Dunnuck. He scored it 95 points, calling it “a pure, layered, concentrated 100% Sauvignon Blanc” and noting that it was “brought up in 75% new oak.” Dunnuck’s tasting note emphasizes both ripeness and polish, led by “honeyed flowers, ripe lemon, mint, and spicy wood notes,” and he describes the wine as “medium to full-bodied and impeccably balanced on the palate.” He also points to real staying power for the category, writing that “it will shine for at least 5-7 years, and my money is on longer.”

The Wine Palate likewise frames the wine as generous but structured, awarding 92 points. Aromatically, it opens with “poached pears, juicy melon, and white peaches,” with additional layers of “wild thyme, lime leaves, and lemongrass.” On the palate, the publication highlights a texture that will appeal to drinkers who like fullness in Sauvignon Blanc, citing “a seductive oiliness to the texture with a racy backbone to counter,” and finishing “long” with “pears and herbs.”
