Cantina Tramin’s 2023 Stoan is a blended white from Alto Adige DOC that leans on Chardonnay with supporting roles for Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco and a small portion of Gewürztraminer. Several reviewers note the winery’s stated mix as 65% Chardonnay, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Pinot Bianco and 5% Gewürztraminer (Vinous’ Eric Guido; Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner). The fruit comes from high sites—“400 to 600 meters in elevation,” according to Larner—and the wine is matured in large oak, with Larner reporting “matured in large oak casks for 11 months.” Production is substantial: Larner cites “60,000 bottles,” while Wine Spectator frames this as “5,600 cases made.”

This is a barrel-fermented, mineral-driven style that aims for breadth without losing line. Decanter (93 points, an excellent review) describes “ripe pear, white peach and lemon zest” with “fresh herbs and a chalky, crushed stone edge,” then notes it “unfurl[s] across the palate in creamy waves from lees ageing” while finishing “long and tidy, with light phenolic grip.” Vinous (93 points, also excellent) emphasizes a cooler register—“a minty resonance, giving way to stone dust and sweet spice”—and calls the wine “youthfully tense,” finishing with “a saline tinge.” James Suckling (93 points) highlights aromatic lift—“snow peas, grapefruit, white flowers, ginger and salted almonds”—and a “cool, spicy and full-bodied palate… remaining minerally, crisp and lively.”

Other notes align on stone fruit and a chalky, stony feel. Wine Spectator (91 points) calls it “elegant,” with “poached pear, quince, blanched almond, white blossoms and fleur de sel,” and a “plush… lasting finish.” Wine Enthusiast (93 points) points to “fresh peach and kumquat” with “chalky texture,” and gives a long window (“Drink Now - 2040”), while Wine Spectator suggests drinking “now through 2033.” Overall, the 2023 Stoan is a consistently well-reviewed Alto Adige white built around ripe orchard fruit, measured oak influence, and a clear mineral spine.
