Shared Notes’ 2024 Sauvignon Blanc *Les Leçons des Maîtres* is a Russian River Valley white that aims for a broader, Bordeaux-influenced expression of the variety, blending 75% Sauvignon Blanc with 25% Sémillon. The project is led by the wife-and-husband team of Bibiana Gonzalez Rave and Jeff Pisoni, who have been making wine together under the Shared Notes label since 2012. This bottling comes in at 13.70% alcohol, and production is small—just 188 cases.
In the glass, the wine is positioned as both aromatic and structured. James Suckling notes “aromas of citrus blossoms, fresh tropical fruit, oak spices, minerals and stone fruit,” adding that it’s “crafted in a chardonnay-like style.” He calls the palate “quite flamboyant, with bright acidity,” and flags a “slightly cloying, textured finish,” before concluding, “Drink or hold.” That comment sets expectations for richness and texture alongside the varietal lift.
Wine Spectator’s 94-point review is an excellent showing and focuses on precision and length, calling it “a stunner” with “sleek, fresh and juicy flavors of clementine, Meyer lemon and peach at the core.” The review adds detail with “a note of Himalayan sea salt,” plus “hints of bergamot and lemon verbena that linger on the long, expressive finish,” and recommends drinking it now.
The standout praise comes from Jeb Dunnuck, whose excellent 96-point rating is accompanied by an emphatic endorsement: “They are great.” Dunnuck describes the 2024 as “so expressive,” with “zesty freshness, electric salinity, lime zest, tropical tones, and incredible energy while remaining focused, long, and tension-filled.” He also takes the longest view on longevity, writing, “It can age for a very long time,” with a suggested window of 2026–2046.
Overall, this is a deliberately ambitious, small-production Russian River white that balances citrus and stone fruit with saline detail, texture, and clear critical momentum.
