The NV Brut Nature Les Murgiers (2020 base) (84% Meunier, 10% Chardonnay, 6% Pinot Noirs) is rich, creamy and expansive, possessing bright acids that pull it together. Peach, white flowers, crushed rocks and bright saline notes all run right through this taut, super-expressive Champagne from Boulard. There is so much to like here. With a rich golden/copper hue, this release of the NV Champagne Les Murgiers Brut Nature is predominantly from the 2020 harvest, with 20% reserve wine added, and is 84% Meunier, with 10% Chardonnay and a splash of Pinot Noir. Savory and inviting, its purity intensifies as it opens in the glass, revealing notes of framboise, spiced orange, oyster shells, and beeswax. Rounded yet focused, it offers a pillowy mousse and generous fruit through the mid-palate before tapering to a refreshing and lifted finish. The new release of Francis Boulard’s “Les Murgiers” Brut Nature is a blend of seventy percent pinot meunier and thirty percent pinot noir. The base year for this bottling is 2007 and the wine was aged six and a half years sur latte prior to disgorgement. The vins clairs were all barrel-fermented in older wood and went through full malo. The wine offers up a fine bouquet of tangerine, white peach, fresh-baked bread, a fine base of soil tones and discreet nuttiness as a topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and very well-balanced, with a fine core of fruit, beautifully-integrated acids, elegant mousse and lovely soil signature on the long and complex finish. Without any dosage, the wine probably needed its extended period on the lees to harmonize seamlessly, which has now done and the wine is drinking splendidly. Fine, fine Brut Nature! 2016-2025.

Spice and graphite accents are an aromatic thread winding through notes of ripe pear, candied pink grapefruit zest and lime blossom in this balanced Champagne enlivened by lip-smacking acidity. Zippy. Drink now through 2022. – AN
