The new release of Francis Boulard’s “Les Murgiers” Brut Nature is a blend of seventy
percent pinot meunier and thirty percent pinot noir. The base year for this bottling is 2007 and
the wine was aged six and a half years sur latte prior to disgorgement. The vins clairs were all
barrel-fermented in older wood and went through full malo. The wine offers up a fine bouquet of
tangerine, white peach, fresh-baked bread, a fine base of soil tones and discreet nuttiness as a
topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and very well-balanced, with a fine
core of fruit, beautifully-integrated acids, elegant mousse and lovely soil signature on the long
and complex finish. Without any dosage, the wine probably needed its extended period on the
lees to harmonize seamlessly, which has now done and the wine is drinking splendidly. Fine, fine
Brut Nature! 2016-2025.
