jamessuckling.com, July 2023

Very impressive for a "regular" non-vintage Brut, not only in terms of aromatic complexity - candied citrus, dried peach and fresh mirabelle plus a hint of bread dough - also in terms of texture, the creamy, rich and...

Wine Enthusiast, December 2022

Even the nonvintage cuvée from this top producer has bottle age, so the yeasty edge and touches of almonds balance with the Champagne's acidity and fruitiness of white fruits and citrus flavors. This fine poised wine is...

Decanter, October 2023

Even in the tricky 2017 vintage, Charles Heidsieck turns out an impeccable NV. The reserves form a serious, appetising core of dried apricot and sourdough around which zesty citrus, raspberry and bitter almond offer...

The NV Champagne Reserve Brut is based on the 2018 vintage plus 50% reserve wine going back to 1998, which adds substantial depth to the entry wine in this range. Composed of 40% each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and 20%...

View From The Cellar, April 2021

The new release of Charles Heidsieck non-vintage Brut is from the base year of 2010 and was disgorged in 2018, giving this wine plenty of time to develop with time aging sur latte. The bouquet is deep, refined and...

(92+ points) The Charles Heidsieck NV Brut Réserve is elaborated with 150 different wines from most of 60 crus. This is a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier with 50% of reserve wines. Disgorged...

The Wine Independent, November 2023

Charles Heidsieck’s signature cuvée, the Brut Réserve NV, is a blend of 40% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay largely Grand and Premier Cru fruit, with 20% of Pinot Meunier. The “signature” element is the high percentage of...

Champagne Charles Heidsieck was founded in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck, an entrepreneur and a visionary. He decided to concentrate on producing and aging wine, leaving the vineyards to the expertise of growers, and purchased forty-seven chalk cellars dating from the 11th century. This labyrinth of underground alcoves and galleries offered ideal conditions for aging and enhancing his wines.

Following his dream of a wider audience for his exceptional wines, Charles left for America in 1852 (at that time a market still untouched by the Champagne trade) and became an ambassador for Champagne and France. He won over the South, including wild Louisiana, and became known as “Champagne Charlie”.

Today, Charles Heidsieck is one of Champagne's premier houses, producing both vintage and non-vintage cuvees. Charles Heidsieck champagne is one of the most recognized by the profession, earning awards, gold medals and trophies over the years.

The 9998 Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne Reserve is a remarkable white wine that embodies the essence of the Champagne region in France. With its elegant appearance and exquisite taste, this wine is sure to captivate even the most discerning palate.

In the glass, the wine displays a radiant white color that shimmers with a touch of golden hues. Its effervescence is lively and persistent, creating a stunning display of bubbles that dance elegantly on the surface. The nose is deep, refined, and complex, offering a delightful blend of aromas. Notes of apple and nectarine intertwine with hints of patissière and hazelnut, creating a symphony of scents that are both inviting and alluring. The underlying presence of chalky soil tones and a subtle smoky topnote add a layer of complexity to the bouquet.

On the palate, the wine is bright, full-bodied, and focused. It reveals an excellent core of fruit that is beautifully complemented by a lovely soil signature. The mousse is exceptionally elegant, adding a luxurious texture to the wine. The finish is long, poised, and perfectly balanced, leaving a lasting impression that lingers on the palate.

The Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne Reserve is a non-vintage wine that benefits from seven years of aging on its fine lees. This extended aging process has resulted in a wine that is remarkably complex and ready to be enjoyed upon release. It is a rare find in the world of non-vintage Bruts, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the Charles Heidsieck winery.

Renowned wine experts have praised this wine for its outstanding qualities. John Gilman from View From The Cellar awarded it a score of 92, noting its deep refinement and complexity. Wine Spectator also gave it a score of 92, highlighting its firm acidity and well-integrated flavors. Wine Enthusiast awarded it a score of 93, describing it as a fine poised wine that is ready to drink.

Overall, the 9998 Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne Reserve is a true gem in the world of Champagne. Its elegance, complexity, and impeccable balance make it a wine that is perfect for any special occasion or celebration. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with refined cuisine, this wine is sure to leave a lasting impression.
