Château de Beaucastel’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2006 is a limited-production white from an appellation better known for reds. Beaucastel is one of the few Châteauneuf estates with dedicated white plantings (about 7 hectares), and in 2006 it produced a Roussanne-driven blend built for weight, aroma, and longevity. The estate reports the wine as roughly 80% Roussanne, with Grenache Blanc and small portions of Picardan, Clairette, and Bourboulenc. Grapes were hand-harvested and sorted, gently pressed, and fermented mostly in tank with a portion in oak; the wine was raised about eight months before bottling. Robert Parker also notes that it goes “through full malolactic,” underscoring the wine’s broad, rounded style.

This is a wine that drew excellent reviews on release. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded 94 points, calling it “full-bodied” with an “unctuous texture,” “gorgeous purity and richness,” and a “stunningly long finish.” Parker highlights classic Beaucastel blanc markers—“orange marmalade, honeysuckle and rose petals”—and goes further, saying it “can compete with the finest full-throttle dry whites of France as well as the world.” He also frames the wine as atypical for the appellation and “extraordinarily rich and honeyed,” recommending it with “intensely flavored culinary dishes.”

Wine Spectator likewise scored it 94 points, describing a “densely layered” profile of “peach cobbler, graham, heather, chamomile, almond and brioche,” finishing long with a “smoke-tinged” note. The magazine suggested patience, noting it was “still youthfully raw” at the time, with a drinking window “best from 2010 through 2021.” Production was small at “1850 cases,” reinforcing the wine’s relative rarity in the Beaucastel lineup.
