Domaine Armand Rousseau’s 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru “Clos des Ruchottes” is a benchmark Gevrey-Chambertin bottling from a rare setup: a 1.06-hectare monopole acquired in 1978 that makes up roughly one-third of the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru. The domaine itself—founded in 1909 and now led by Eric Rousseau with his daughter Cyrielle—has long been associated with restrained, site-forward Burgundy, and this wine’s reviews consistently underline that sense of precision and mineral drive.

The strongest notices are excellent. Vinous’ Neal Martin (96+ points) calls it “an irresistible mélange of red and black fruit” with “stunning delineation,” noting “precise red fruit tinged with pencil lead” and the “brightness and vivacity on the finish.” He also stresses the terroir signature, describing it as “surfeit with mineralité as you want from this vineyard,” and frames it as a wine still early in its evolution: “Just on the opening pages of its story.”

Burghound (95 points) similarly emphasizes detail and structure, praising “energetic and beautifully well-detailed… flavors” that are “tautly muscular yet elegant,” finishing with “a decidedly sleek and stunningly long finish.” The review flags “enough wood to notice” and “a hint of youthful austerity,” but also concludes this “markedly firm effort” is “gorgeous” and built “to age and improve for two to three decades.”

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rates it 95 (from a 93–95 barrel range), highlighting perfume and lift: an “inviting bouquet” of “red berries and plums” with “rose petals, peonies, grilled meats and forest floor,” followed by a “bright and lively” palate and a “long, saline finish.”

Jasper Morris (94–96) finds “enviable succulence” and “high-toned aromatics,” with “very dark cherry,” while noting it isn’t fully knit yet—“the middle ground needs to develop further”—suggesting patience will be rewarded.
