Purchased in 1996 by Antonio Moretti of Tenuta Sette Ponti, Orma is located next to Ornellaia in the heart of Bolgheri within the district of Castagneto Carducci. Its 5.5 hectares of vineyards, between the hills and the sea, is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot on primarily sand and gravel soils, perfect for these varieties to thrive.

First released in 2005 as a special project of Tenuta Sette Ponti's Antonio Moretti, Orma translates to “mark” or “footprint”. A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, the wine is aged for 12 months in French barriques. Delighting critics and connoisseurs alike, this single-estate Super Tuscan has received many awards and accolades.

The 2019 Orma is a remarkable red wine that embodies the essence of the Bolgheri region in Tuscany, Italy. Crafted by the esteemed producer Orma, this proprietary blend showcases the unparalleled quality of the vineyards located between the renowned Ornellaia and Sassicaia estates.

With a deep, rich red color that hints at its intensity, the Orma immediately captivates the senses. The fragranced aromas emanating from the glass are simply enchanting, offering a delightful bouquet of perfumed red and black fruits. Notes of spicy eucalyptus add an intriguing layer of complexity to the aromatic profile.

On the palate, this wine truly shines. The well-structured tannins coat the mouth, unveiling the concentrated flavors of blackcurrant. There is a harmonious balance between power and freshness, underscored by an undeniable elegance that lingers throughout the tasting experience. While the Orma is undeniably enjoyable now, its tight and somewhat closed nature suggests that it would benefit from a few years of aging to fully reveal its true potential.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded this vintage an impressive score of 97 points, hailing it as perhaps the best Orma ever produced. He praises its solid tannins, which beautifully frame the fruit, and highlights its full-bodied nature and intense structure. Suckling recommends waiting until 2025 to truly appreciate the wine's evolution.

Jane Anson, another respected critic, describes the Orma as an impressive Bordeaux blend that showcases the unique fragrance and spice that the Italian climate imparts on the grape varieties. She commends its well-drawn and present tannins, as well as its balanced high alcohol content. Anson suggests decanting the wine for a few hours if it is to be enjoyed now, but assures that it has the potential to age gracefully for a decade or more.

The 2019 Orma also received a glowing review from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, earning a score of 95 points. Monica Larner, the critic behind the review, praises the wine's ripe fruit character, with notes of blackberry, candied cherry, and spice. She notes the round and soft mouthfeel, as well as the vineyards' unique soil composition at 60 meters above sea level.

In conclusion, the 2019 Orma is a truly exceptional wine that exemplifies the best of the Bolgheri region. With its intoxicating aromas, impressive structure, and potential for aging, this red blend is a testament to the skill and passion of the Orma winery. Whether enjoyed now or savored in the years to come, the 2019 Orma promises to be a remarkable addition to any wine enthusiast's collection.
