A spicy and deep wine with licorice and bergamot aromas. The fruit is bright and layered, with plums and red cherries. But it’s on the palate where you feel the quality of this wine. It’s full-bodied with ripe, velvety...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2025

Here is another masterpiece from vintner Martino Manetti (and winemaker Paolo Salvi, following in the footsteps of long-time key figures Giulio Gambelli and Estate Manager Bruno Bini). The Montevertine 2022 Le Pergole...

(97+ points) The 2022 Le Pergole Torte is every bit as magnificent as it was last year. Deep and expansive in the glass, with stunning depth, the 2022 stains the palate with layers of dark fruit, mocha, new leather and...

Montevertine’s Le Pergole Torte 2022 is the estate’s flagship Sangiovese from Radda in Chianti, bottled as Toscana IGT—part of the property’s long-running decision to prioritize pure Sangiovese over appellation rules. The wine is sourced from the estate’s oldest vines, including the original Le Pergole Torte vineyard, a roughly 2-hectare plot planted in 1968. Fermentations are carried out in concrete, with malolactic in cement as well, then the wine is aged about two years in oak, combining French barriques and larger casks before bottling. Production is limited; Monica Larner reports “30,000 bottles.”

Critical reception for 2022 is excellent across the board, and two reviews stand out as top-tier. In Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Monica Larner awards 98 points and calls it “another masterpiece,” adding, “This is an amazing wine, so precise and balanced.” She highlights both the authority of the year and the wine’s composure, saying she loves “the boldness of the vintage” while also being “delighted by how elegantly it unfolds over the palate,” with “mineral notes that add freshness and vertical lift.” Larner sums up the vintage clearly: “This is one of my favorite wines from 2022… This is definitely a high.”

JamesSuckling.com also scores it 98, with Aldo Fiordelli describing a “spicy and deep wine with licorice and bergamot aromas,” plus “bright and layered” fruit. He emphasizes structure and drinkability, noting it is “full-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins and long, refreshing acidity,” and concludes it is “made for the long haul, but also very drinkable now.”

At Vinous, Antonio Galloni rates it 97+ and calls it “every bit as magnificent,” praising its “stunning depth” and a finish that “explodes on the back end,” while advising patience as it will need time to “shed some baby fat” and show its full detail.
