Commanderie de Peyrassol’s 2025 “Les Commandeurs” Rosé is a Côtes de Provence AOP bottling from one of the region’s longstanding estates, founded in 1204. The property sits in the foothills of the Massif des Maures on dry, rocky clay-limestone soils, about 10 miles from the Mediterranean. For this cuvée, Peyrassol blends Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Rolle (Vermentino), and Mourvèdre, drawing on younger estate vines alongside fruit from nearby partner growers selected to “enhance complexity.” In the cellar, the approach is built around freshness: night harvesting to preserve acidity, gentle pressing, 24-hour cold settling, and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by several months in stainless-steel vats.
Critics largely agree that the 2025 delivers more depth and structure than many wines in the category. Vinous awards an excellent 91 points, with Billy Norris calling it “one of the highlights of the vintage.” He notes “savory nuances of lavender and grilled herbs” over “fresh watermelon and nectarine,” and describes a profile that is “weighty and curvaceous,” “especially fleshy through the mid-palate,” while still impressive for its “balance and articulation.”
Wine Spectator rates it 90 points and emphasizes a mineral, dry-edged frame: “flinty and stony,” with “pretty, zesty notes of peach and guava” lifted by “floral high tones and fresh herb details.” The magazine also flags this as a rosé with “more substance and length than most,” and recommends drinking it now.
At the Decanter World Wine Awards, Decanter also gives an excellent 91 points, highlighting a “delicate stone fruit, lemon zest and floral nose,” plus “mineral and saline elements” that add “depth to the fine and persistent finish.”
Taken together, the 2025 “Les Commandeurs” reads as a classic, stainless-steel-shaped Provençal rosé with notable texture, savory detail, and a mineral finish.
